The English Bulldog:

The English Bulldogs originates from the British Isles. The original use for the breed was in the cruel sport of bull baiting. This sport is where the breeds name comes from. The original English Bulldogs were known to be vicious and courageous with extremely high pain tolerances. These qualities are far different than those of the dogs, like Winnie, that we know and love today! When the sport was banned in 1835, the breed was expected to die out. However, many people fought to save the breed. Through the selective breeding for positive traits the English Bulldog was saved!

Modern English Bulldogs are independent thinkers, friendly and calm companions, and courageous explorers. Moreover, Bulldogs are of medium energy and size and most dogs of this breed are perfect furry friends for everyone!

Great Britain Geography:

Great Britain is a cluster of Islands right off the coast of Germany and France. Great Britain includes the countries of England, Scotland, and Wales which are under a Constitutional Monarchy. A Constitutional Monarchy is when a country has a queen or king as well as a governing body to make policies. In Great Britain Parliament is the governing body. Unlike in the United States where we have a president, the position of king or queen holds little governing power. The title of king or queen is inherited. This means the title passes through the royal family from parent to child.  Great Britain’s history is one which is very important to our current world because they are the mother country to thousands of nations including ours!

Great Britain Culture:

British culture is not very different from ours. The national language of Great Britain is English; however, there are many different dialects (sound different) depending on the region or group someone belongs to. In Great Britain they have a national church, The Church of England, which the king or queen is head of. Not all citizens must belong to this church, but it is the church of the state. In America, the First Amendment protects our rights to religious freedom; therefore, our government is completely separate from any and all churches. Great Britain has both urban (city) and rural areas (small towns; framing land). Well known British foods include fish and chips (fried fish and french fries), bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes), and haggis (a sheep meat sausage with oats, onions, and seasonings).
